Department of Dravya Guna Vigyan (Materia Medica/Pharmacology)
THE COURSE OFFERED:
The Department offers pharmacology course during the first two years of D.A.M.S course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This department deals with the teaching of different aspects related to herbal medicines, their identification, properties, cultivation and preservation embracing their interaction with living being. The department has developed a very good herbarium incorporating over 1000 drugs. It also has a collection of over 400 compilations on single herbs prepared by Diploma scholars. It conducts Clinical trials to assess the pharmacological properties of the herbs.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
1. Describe the pharmacological effects, mechanisms of action, kinetic characteristics and adverse effects of drugs.
2. Understand and apply the principles of rational therapeutic decision making and prescribing.
3. Recognize and manage the drug reactions, interaction and problems due to misuse and abuse of drugs.
4. Identify and assess objectives the drugs information sources.
